EUROPUR welcomes the European Commission’s initiative to further instate a circular economy in Europe. There are however a number of challenges that our industry faces in that regards that need to be taken into consideration or issues that require particular considerations, such as for example the eco-design of PU foam containing products, the re-use of post-consumer flexible foam, mechanical and feedstock recycling as well as extended producer responsibility schemes.
That is why EUROPUR calls on EU Institutions to accept waste to energy as a legitimate waste treatment solutions for products that are currently less recyclable and to encourage research into promising recycling technologies for thermosetting plastics.
