EUROPUR responded to the European Commission's stakeholder consultation on Circular Economy open from May to August 2015. Our position paper can be read herewith. EUROPUR welcomes the European Commission's initiative to further instate a circular economy in Europe. There are however a number of challenges that our industry faces in that regards that need to be taken into consideration or issues that require particular considerations, such as for example the eco-design of PU foam containing products, the re-use of post-consumer flexible foam, mechanical and feedstock recycling as well as extended producer responsibility schemes.
That is why EUROPUR calls on EU Institutions to accept waste to energy as a legitimate waste treatment solutions for products that are currently less recyclable and to encourage research into promising recycling technologies for thermosetting plastics.
